Try It

A great way to determine if an electric vehicle is the right fit for your life is to drive an electric vehicle. Borrow an electric vehicle for several days to determine if it meets your daily transportation needs.

Electric Vehicle Experience.

Member of both Flathead Electric Cooperative and Lower Valley Energy have the opportunity to try out an electric vehicle for free. Each co-op provides a program that offers their respective members a free opportunity to try an electric vehicle to determine if the electric technology can serve their daily needs.

Yellowstone-Teton Clean Cities (YTCC) received funding through Teton Conservation District and partnered with Lower Valley Energy and Energy Conservation Works to offer the Electric Vehicle Experience. The program currently hosts a 2020 Chevrolet Bolt with a range of over 250 miles which is plenty to travel comfortably in the “Last of the Old West.” The program was developed to address the lack of available electric vehicle’s on dealership lots in rural Wyoming. The ability to drive an electric vehicle greatly increases a person’s understanding of the technology and eventual purchase of an electric vehicle.

Members of Flathead Cooperative can borrow a Chevrolet Bolt or a Tesla Model Y.

Rent a vehicle.

Turo is one of several vehicle rental services with an array of options. It is the world’s largest car sharing marketplace bound to have an option you would like to try.

Local Dealerships.

Electric vehicle may be purchased through one of the many dealerships in the area. Dealerships do not always have the time and resources to train their sales staff on all aspects of electric vehicles, this is one of the reason this website was developed. To put the knowledge in the consumers hands. We recommend having your electric vehicle choice made prior to visiting the dealership. If they do not have the vehicle you want in stock, ask to see if they can order from another dealership. If this does not seem to be an option, do some more research. Some dealerships specialize in electric vehicles.

In Montana, Flannagan Motors sells used electric vehicles, further reducing the up-front cost of buying an electric vehicle. Please see below for a list of dealerships in the region.

In addition, you can search for used electric vehicles at Phil Long EV Outlet in Colorado and Clean Fuels Utah in Orem and Salt Lake City, Utah.

Online Search.

Autotrader.com offers an option to search for vehicles, new and used based on fuel type, so you can select electric and search for electric vehicles available throughout the country.

Used Vehicle Considerations

Range

Depending on the age of the electric vehicle, and more importantly the battery, the EPA estimated range may gradually reduce over time due to use. Be sure to make sure the range the vehicle can actually achieve meets your needs.

Test it

If possible, take the vehicle for a drive to understand the learn the range and understand all the controls

Technical Check

Just like you may with a gasoline car, have a technical check it out pre-purchase to ensure everything is in good operating condition. Also, learn if the battery is still within warranty due to age and mileage of vehicle.
